At Harvest Counseling & Wellness, we believe lasting healing comes when the mind and body learn new ways of working together. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, drug-free method that helps the brain “practice” healthier activity patterns. Over time, this training can improve focus, reduce anxiety, regulate mood, and even support recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI).

What Is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, sometimes called EEG biofeedback, is best thought of as exercise for your brain. Just as physical training builds strength and coordination, neurofeedback helps your brain develop stability, balance, and resilience.

Here’s how it works:

  • Small sensors placed on your scalp measure brainwave activity in real time.

  • Specialized software processes this activity and uses it to adjust what you see or hear — such as a video, game, or sound.

  • When your brain shifts into the target range, the video plays smoothly or the game moves forward. When it drifts out of range, the feedback changes.

You never see the raw brain data. Instead, your brain learns through reinforcement. Over repeated sessions, it begins to regulate itself more effectively — much like muscle memory from physical exercise. This process can lead to better focus, steadier emotions, improved sleep, and greater resilience after challenges such as concussion or TBI.

Who Can Benefit?

Neurofeedback has been shown to help children, teens, and adults experiencing:

  • ADHD and attention challenges

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Depression and mood instability

  • Trauma and PTSD symptoms

  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion recovery

  • Sleep disturbances and poor sleep quality

  • Learning difficulties and academic struggles

  • Performance anxiety (athletes, professionals, students)

Because it is non-invasive and medication-free, neurofeedback can be used on its own or alongside counseling and psychiatric support.

What to Expect During a Session

  1. Assessment – We begin with a detailed intake and baseline mapping to understand your goals and brain activity.

  2. Sensor Placement – Small EEG sensors are placed on the scalp to monitor brainwaves.

  3. Feedback Training – You’ll watch a video or play a game. When your brain is in the target zone, the screen responds positively. When it moves out of range, the feedback shifts.

  4. Practice and Progress – With repeated sessions, your brain gradually learns to stay in healthier patterns more consistently.

Most people notice subtle improvements within a few weeks, with larger changes building over time.
